A watt is a unit of power. It is defined as 1 joule per second. For example, a typical microwave uses around 1000 watts of electricity. Watts are calculated by a simple formula: voltage x amperage=Watts.

Amperage or AMPS is the speed at which the electric signal travels or pushes down a wire. The calculation for AMPS is: 1amp x 5volts=5watts

Voltage is the intensity of the electrical signal. High voltage is considered 600 volts and up, so a standard USB cable uses 5 volts.

This Question illustrates an important principle about electricity. It is always trying to complete the circuit. In other words, electricity will always take the easiest route to get where it wants to go. With electricity, voltage is a measure of speed; the higher the voltage the more force is being used to pump the electricity and the farther it will jump, creating a larger arc or spark. If not, the next step would be to check the breaker. If the breaker has tripped, simply turn it back on by pushing the handle all the way to the off position until you feel it catch. Then move it to the “ON” position. It’s important to know that breakers can trip and not appear to be tripped.
